Deoxidized global impact: Lifting Impoverished Communities through Education!

At DEOX, we’re putting thought into action.

Most people living in extreme poverty lack basic education. Education is vital. It breaks the cycle of poverty for entire communities. Through our partnership
–Deoxidized&buildOn– we are creating an impact by building school(s) in San Pedro Carcha, Guatemala, buildOn has built 2609 schools, with 341,633 children and adults attending buildOn schools. 98% of buildOn students graduate high school.

We already have experience with buildOn – a DEOX board member has been directly involved in building 103 of the schools!

HOW IT WORKS:

The Deoxidized&buildOn partnership provides engineering, materials, and skilled labor; the village will provide the land, local materials and weeks of local labor to build the school.

Schools are built with the community – not for the community.

Gender Equality:

The village also promises to send girls and boys in equal numbers to the school.

In the evening, adults learn to read, write, and do basic math through the lens of health, enterprise and relevant life skills. Later, they are guided to put their newly acquired skills together through local income generating activities. As you can see – the school is the hub for community elevation. Community elevation is foundational to political stability.

CAN I GET INVOLVED?

You’re already involved, if you’re a Deoxidized camp member attending Burning Man this year. $100 of your camp dues is earmarked for building our first Guatemalan school.

But there are more ways to get involved:

Trek to build our school. We are a camp of builders. In the spring of 2025, you will be offered the transformative opportunity to participate in a buildOn & DEOX trek to build our school(s) in Guatemala.
